Chapter 53: Happy Halloween

You’ve been running all around this crazy house, and every time you find Peek, the toy piano plays “The Bear Went over the Mountain,” he vanishes, and you have to find him again. But the third time, you hold him tightly by the shoulders. “Peek,” you say, out of breath, “why do you keep hiding?” He looks into your eyes, alarmed. “Because, the bad man is coming. We have to hide, or he’ll get us.” He tries to squirm away from you, but you hold him tightly.

“What bad man?” you ask. “Peek, what bad man are you hiding from?”

He looks at you seriously. “The bad man with the knife. No one can stop him, so we have to hide.”

“Peek,” you say firmly. “I’ve been all over this house. There’s no one here but us.”

“Not now,” says Peek. “I mean back then.”

“Back when?”

“Back when the house was different,” says Peek. Suddenly Peek looks hopeful. “You are good at hide and seek. If… I take you there, do you think you can stop the bad man? Our babysitter wasn’t good at hiding, and the bad man found all of us. But maybe you can find him.”

“But Peek,” you say, “if that already happened, how can we stop it?”

Suddenly you realize the house is different. There are other children in the room, and you have long blonde hair and are wearing a red skirt. Peek looks up at you. “Quick,” he says, “the bad man is here. Help us hide.” He and the other children scramble in all directions, and you hear the terrifying Michael Myers music from Halloween playing, and see the silhouette of a knife wielding maniac entering the room just as the lights go out.

Place the Halloween cartridge into your Atari 2600. Try to get the children to the safe rooms. Play until you score 10,000 points or more. Post a link to a video in the comments section of yourself completing the challenge.
